Are acoustics good enough in your child's school?
High quality acoustics in schools are vital for many deaf children to be able to listen and learn effectively in the classroom. Yet NDCS has evidence that acoustics in some schools are not good enough and that the Government's own standards are not being met.
In our campaign report on education, Must do better!, acoustics was highlighted as a barrier to achievement by deaf children. NDCS will be campaigning on this issue in 2009 - and we need your help.
Whether you're a parent of a deaf child or a professional working with deaf children, please get in touch to let us know about your own experiences - positive or negative - of acoustics in schools.
Please feel free to give as much information as you can. For example, you could tell us about:
- the impact that acoustics in the classroom have had on your deaf child
- what action was taken by the school to resolve any issues raised
- the type of school and classroom your deaf child goes to (is it a new or old school, a unit or a mainstream school and so on).
We will use your stories to tell the Government why urgent action is needed to improve acoustics in schools. We will anonymise any information you supply at your request.
Email us direct at campaigns@ndcs.org.uk with your experiences. Alternatively, you can use our online form if you prefer.
