Local deaf children help NDCS launch Close the Gap campaign
NDCS has launched a major campaign report at Westminster on the educational under achievement by deaf children, as part of our campaign to Close the Gap.
Poppy, Ben and Alfie from Barking Deaf Children’s Society met with MPs outside the Houses of Parliament to help launch the campaign report and talk about their own experiences and ambitions. 45 MPs visited to support the campaign, including:
- Lord Andrew Adonis, Minister at the Department for Children, Schools and Families, with responsibility for children with special educational needs.
- Michael Gove, Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families.
- David Blunkett MP
Have a look at our photo gallery from the day to see who else visited on the day.
The report sets out the barriers that are holding deaf children back from fulfilling their potential, and includes recommendations for urgent action from the Government.
It also includes drawings from deaf children on what they want to be when they grow up, and the results from our survey of parents.
