Acoustics campaign features on TV
See Hear, the BBC2 programme for deaf people, has shown a programme featuring deaf young teenagers speaking about the personal impact of poor acoustics and their efforts to lobby MPs for better acoustics.
The students from Sweyne Park school in Essex and St. Paul's Way Community School in London were filmed back in June for the programme. One student talks of her experiences in classrooms with poor acoustics:
"You feel really left out and you feel like you're sitting in a corner in a lonely classroom... so it hurts your feelings a little bit."
Another talks of the impact on behaviour:
"When it's echoey, sometimes I feel I like to mess about! When the class is quiet, then I start to be good."
The students are also shown lobbying MPs back in June when they attended a NDCS parliamentary event on acoustics to support the Sounds good? campaign for better acoustics.
NDCS would like to thank the students for doing a fantastic job in demonstrating the importance of acoustics.
