Getting to know the Welsh Assembly

Over the past few years, the Welsh Assembly Government has gained more powers to make important decisions which affect the way we live in Wales.

That is why NDCS Cymru monitors developments at the Welsh Assembly. NDCS Cymru informs politicians and key decision makers about the issues that affect deaf children and their families and calls for change to improve services.

Question Time

Every week, Assembly Members (AMs) get the chance to quiz the First Minister and cabinet Ministers on the issues that are important to them.

NDCS Cymru often encourages politicians to ask questions to about the issues affecting deaf children and young people.

Debates

This is the discussion between Assembly Members that takes place in the main chamber of the Senedd, known as the Siambr.

Sometimes, when the Assembly is discussing an issue of interest to deaf children and young people, NDCS Cymru sends out a briefing note to AMs.

Statements of Opinion

Any Assembly Member, other than a member of the Government, can table a Statement of Opinion. Other AMs can choose to support the statement.

For example, a Statement of Opinion was tabled in 2009 calling on ITV Wales to reverse it's decision to cut signed headlines on Wales Tonight.
