Ministerial letter sent to local authorities asking for data on all deaf pupils to be recorded
A Ministerial letter has been sent to every local authority in Wales, asking for all deaf children and young people to be recorded in the Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC).
The letter was sent in December after NDCS Cymru met with Jane Hutt AM, (then-Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills) to voice our concerns that not all deaf children and young people in Wales are recorded in the pupil census.
NDCS Cymru recently published data on the attainment of deaf children and young people in Wales, but was disappointed that this data set could not encapsulate all deaf pupils who do not receive any specialist support.
NDCS Cymru is pleased that the Welsh Assembly Government has taken our concerns onboard and hopes that this Ministerial letter will help to ensure that we are able to achieve improved data on all deaf children in Wales.
