NDCS Cymru responds to consultation on school inspections
NDCS Cymru has set out our views on plans to change the way schools in Wales are inspected.
Estyn, which is responsible for inspecting education services in Wales, plans to make a number of changes to school inspections in 2010.
NDCS Cymru believes that Estyn have a key role to play in ensuring that deaf children throughout Wales are getting the support they deserve. As such, Estyn could have a big effect on helping to close the attainment gap between deaf children and their hearing peers.
That is why NDCS Cymru has responded to Estyn’s consultation on the proposed changes. Among other things, NDCS Cymru is calling on Estyn to produce guidelines for inspectors to use when assessing services for deaf children.
We have also highlighted the need for deaf provision to be assessed by professionals with an appropriate understanding of deafness.
Earlier this year, NDCS Cymru met with Estyn officials, who agreed that NDCS Cymru can provide deaf awareness training for a number of their inspectors.
