Gavin Hogg
Trustee
Gavin Hogg is the father of two profoundly deaf children aged 12 and 14 years.
I feel for deaf children and their parents, as deafness is the hidden disability, and that there is still a huge misunderstanding within the local community about the problems associated with deafness - which I feel is unacceptable
His eldest Ruaridh was diagnosed late at 18 months, has a cochlear implant and is at Donaldson's College, Edinburgh. His younger child, Erika, was tested and diagnosed far earlier, is fitted with digital hearing aids and is at Mary Hare School.
Gavin lives in the Highlands of Scotland and has been vice-chair of the Highland Deaf Children's Society for the past seven years and is fully aware of the challenges of providing services in a rural environment. He is actively involved with improving national services for deaf children, especially with regards to social inclusion, sport and leisure.
Gavin runs his own independent hostel and chairs a marketing company for hostel businesses in the Scottish highlands. Gavin is a lay member of the Inspectorate of Education and is an active member of the Disability access panel in Fort William.
Gavin has been on the NDCS Board of trustees since the end of November 2001.
