We have various Sign Language CD-ROMs available for you to borrow. 

The number of Sign Language CD-ROMs available increases all the time.

Trying to decide which one to purchase can be difficult without having tried them first. You can end up with something that is inappropriate for your needs, resulting in a costly mistake. The NDCS Blue Peter Service has available a number of CD-ROMs that deaf children and their families can try in the comfort of their own homes. While most of the CD-ROMs are aimed at learning or improving BSL skills, some are designed for use by deaf children.

BaSiL’s World CD-ROM

BaSiL’s World is a fun CD-ROM designed for deaf children but also enjoyed by parents and hearing siblings.

Your child is able to select from various scenes such as at the playground or in the home. When the mouse button is clicked on parts of the scene, a video is displayed with someone signing the appropriate word or phrase.

This CD-ROM is useful for the development of communication, language and memory skills.

BaSiL’s World CD-ROM can be borrowed for two months.

Signs For Education CD-ROMs (English, Maths, IT)

Aimed at children in secondary or further education, these CD-ROMs can be very useful for students whose preferred method of learning is through BSL

They can also be utilised by teachers that have BSL students.

The CD-ROMs contain a large vocabulary for the individual subjects and give each word a BSL sign by means of a video clip. Many of the words also have an explanation of the word in BSL, also using a video clip.

These CD-ROMs can be borrowed for two months.

Simple Signs is an ideal resource for family members starting to learn sign language and is best used to enhance the skills being taught by a sign language instructor.

This CD-ROM can be borrowed for two months.

Sign It! CD-ROM

Sign It! Is a fun to use CD-ROM that is ideal for people learning British Sign Language (BSL) at Level 2.

It can help to improve BSL grammar, receptive skills and also enables you to build on your sign vocabulary. It includes various exercises and hundreds of video clips.

This CD-ROM can be borrowed for two months.

Let's Sign BSL Building Blocks

This package, aimed at families, schools and children of all ages, is an ideal introduction to sign language.

Lets Sign BSL (credit: NDCS)

The set comprises a CD-ROM, a student primer book and a tutors' handbook.

The CD-ROM contains 60 signs with video clips of Angie, Paul and their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Amy, signing in BSL.

The student primer complements the CD-ROM and is accessible to both younger children and older learners. The tutors' handbook is aimed at anyone involved in teaching basic sign language. It can be useful for families with deaf children where other family members would like to learn to sign.

This CD-ROM contains over 850 video clips of everyday signs.
