Damian Ball, Roadshow Coordinator
Hi, my name is Damian and I am the Roadshow Coordinator on the NDCS Listening Bus. I have been working on the Listening Bus since April 2006, and in that time, have travelled all over the UK meeting hundreds of deaf children and young people.
Being deaf myself, I enjoy talking to them about all the great services the NDCS offers them such as activity weekends with canoeing, rock climbing, biking and loads more. I also enjoy being able to talk to parents about their experiences raising a deaf child and providing them with useful information and resources to develop their child’s independence.
I graduated from university with a BA Honours in Business Management with Marketing, and became involved with voluntary work abroad. I worked in Costa Rica/Nicaragua for three months on behalf of Raleigh International, which was fantastic. I helped assist with projects in the local community, trekked through the rainforest and lived on the beach! A further three months were then spent in Peru working at a deaf school in Cusco. I enjoyed it so much, that I wanted to become involved with the NDCS, and assist in breaking down barriers for deaf children and young people in the UK.
Damian
Louise Halvey, Roadshow Assistant
Warm Greetings,
My name is Louise Halvey and I am the Roadshow Assistant on the NDCS Listening Bus. Before I joined the Listening Bus team I was part of the local groups team at NDCS, where I enjoyed nearly two years supporting over 100 deaf children’s societies all over the country.
I am delighted to work on the Listening Bus and to have the opportunity to travel the country, illustrating the fantastic work that NDCS does for deaf young people, their families and the professionals working with them.
I am extremely proud that Damian and I are the first deaf team to run the bus since it opened in 1996. I understand all too well the barriers deaf children face. I am deaf myself and wear two hearings aids. One of my own greatest discoveries with technology was finding out about the ear hooks which are compatible with my ipod, television and PC. The ear hooks work just like the earphones that hearing people use, so I really enjoy demonstrating to young deaf people how they work. Words cannot describe their faces when they hear music for the first time this way; it is priceless and immensely rewarding for me.
I look forward to bringing the Listening Bus to your area, so be sure to make your booking as early as possible. See you soon,
Louise
Gabrielle Nagle, Roadshow Assistant
Hi! My name is Gabrielle Nagle and I am the Roadshow Assistant for the Listening Bus. I am the first point of contact for booking the bus. I organise the regional tour schedule for the bus visits throughout the UK and help out on some of the visits too.
I’ve been working at NDCS since June 2008 and have learnt so much about the issues families with a deaf child face. I enjoy talking to families we meet on the bus about how the NDCS can help them and their child. I often meet deaf children and parents whose stories I want to share in the NDCS Families Magazine.
If you’d like to request a visit from the bus for a school, local group or local service event, please get in touch. I’m happy to help!
Gabby
