Who am I?
Who am I? is a three-year project - supported by The National Lottery through Big Lottery Fund - for all young deaf people aged 13 to 19-years-old and their parents living in Scotland.
What is this project about?
Who am I? aims to:
- Improve young deaf people’s self-esteem so they feel comfortable with their deafness and confident about being independent in a hearing world.
- Encourage parents to feel positive about their child’s transition towards independence and be confident in supporting them.
The project has held two weekends for deaf young people and their families each year. Our next weekend in March 2011 is our final weekend and promises to be the best yet! Don't miss out - book your family's place now..
Deaf young people and their siblings can take part in team games and fun activities that build confidence. All sessions will be lead by deaf young adults who are positive about being deaf.
Parents can take time out to chat with other parents and find out about sources of information and support. There will also be a chance to hear directly from deaf young adults about their own experiences growing up, as well as lots of fun family activities.
We will also be producing a book for young deaf people by young deaf people, a DVD and booklets with tips for parents of young deaf people.
