What is Me2?
Every deaf child has the right to same opportunities as a hearing child, yet many youth organisations are not fully accessible, meaning deaf children and young deaf people aren't able to fulfill their potential. Young deaf people are missing out.
Through the NDCS Deaf Friendly Football project, we have been working with the Football Association and football clubs, both deaf and hearing, to encourage mainstream football clubs to provide facilities for young deaf football players, coaches and fans.
We now want to build on this success to make all youth activities deaf friendly. NDCS is calling on youth organisations to take small and simple steps that would turn them into genuinely inclusive organisations for deaf children and young deaf people. Our vision is for young deaf people to be able to participate on equal terms with their hearing peers across a wide range of activities. We want all young deaf people to be able to stand up and say: “Me too!”
If you are a young deaf person, parent, teacher or if you work for a youth organisation, read on to learn more about how you can help to turn the Me 2 vision into reality.
