June - Reading Escapes
The theme for this month is all about how reading can take us somewhere else.
Reading can take you anywhere. You could be transported to the football pitch by reading the sports pages in a newspaper or you could be taken on a journey to another planet when reading a sci-fi book. The opportunities are limitless!
Here are some ideas for what you could do in June:
- Read some travel guides to inspire you. You may decide you want to visit some of the places you have read about. The Time Out website has some great, free travel guides.
- Write your own travel guides. If there is not one for somewhere you think there ought to be, or if you think you can do it better - write your own!
- Read books that'll take you somewhere. You could read a sci-fi novel about another planet, or perhaps you could read about the lives of people in a different country, or even a different time.
- Visit your local library and grab some free new or favourite reads for your holiday.
- Choose funny and light hearted books to escape from revision and exam stress.
- Become a mythical character - read a fantasy book to escape to another world.
The School Library Association has a great list of books around the theme of Reading Escapes, for people of all ages. You can see this list on their website. There are also some great children’s books in BSL available on the My BSL Books website.
