Meeting other parents
"Talking to other parents was really useful, knowing that they had gone through the same situations was encouraging, I didn't feel so out of my depth. In fact, I have made some really good friends." Sarah, mother of Seana age 7
One the most valuable things parents of deaf children have found about attending a parenting group is meeting other parents in the same situation and learning from and supporting each other.
We recognise that parents really are the experts when it comes to raising a deaf child as they have lived through all the highs and lows that parenting can bring. Getting to know parents through our parenting classes, seminars, local Deaf Children's Societies and Parent Place can be useful. Knowing that you are not alone and other people have experienced the same challenges that you are currently facing can be really valuable to parents.
Having the tools to communicate emotions is vital for all relationships, we have gathered together advice from professionals and parents on how they would empower parents and children with the tools to effectively communicate their feelings.
