"I am really looking forward to working with you all and being involved in the local deaf groups. “

Family Support in Birmingham
Our Family Officer for Birmingham is Kuldip Kaur Kang.
"I’m based in our Birmingham office in the city centre. In my role as a family officer, I support families with issues associated with deafness. These include giving advice and support with benefits, education and grants.
"I help families fill in forms, including the Disability Living Allowance claim pack, whether that be by providing advice or filling it in for families for whom English is a second language or are applying for the first time. I can also assist parents with the statementing process as well as advising on grants deaf children may be entitled to. I am available to conduct home visits if need be.
"The role is extremely diverse as are the families I work with in the region. I speak fluent Punjabi and have understanding of Hindi, Mirpuri and Urdu. For families who speak other languages an interpreter can be arranged to interpret on home visits or for conversations over the phone.
"I have an understanding of deaf issues as I have a BSc (Hons) Audiology qualification from Aston University and have worked as an NHS audiologist. Following this, I worked for a charity which supports deafblind people."

Local groups
Local deaf children's societies are run by parents and carers of deaf children, working together with local health and education professionals. They give emotional and social support to families with deaf children, and give deaf children the chance to meet outside of school.
What's on
Our What's on section lists events, family days, signed and interpreted performances, and much more.
