Tayside DCS
Are you the parent or carer of a child who is deaf or has a hearing impairment? Do you live in or around Tayside?
About our group
We're a group of parents, professionals and friends of deaf children and young deaf adults who meet monthly to organise events, plan fundraising activities and to discuss relevant issues such as health, education and technology.
Aims and activities
The support offered by parents and families who have experienced similar problems, difficulties and triumphs is invaluable. The aims of the society are to:
offer friendship and support to families with a deaf child/childre;
encourage meetings of families through organised activities for all age groups;
provide, where possible, items of equipment which may help to make the home environment a little safer/easier for deaf children;
keep families informed of events, activities and issues via a quarterly newsletter;
ensure equal access to our group by providing interpreters at meetings;
raise funds to finance all of the above;
promote deaf awareness in all areas.
We endeavour to offer support to families throughout the old Tayside region, Perth and Kinross, Dundee and Angus.
Our monthly committee meetings, which are open to everyone, take place on the first Thursday of every month at the Centre for the Deaf, 36 Roseangle, Dundee.
Once a year, in May, we hold our monthly meeting in Arbroath and, likewise, in September we hold the monthly meeting in Perth, to allow easier access for families in these areas. Venues are advertised through our quarterly newsletter.
