South East Berkshire DCS
Are you the parent or carer of a child who is deaf or has a hearing impairment? Do you live in or around South East Berkshire?
About our group
South East Berkshire Deaf Children's Society is run by and for the families of deaf children in Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell and Slough.
Aims and activities
Our activities fall into four main areas:
- Social activities
Every year we organise events for all age groups of children such a Christmas party, trip to a panto, Easter Egg Hunt, Hallowe'en party as well as outside events such as Go Ape at the Look Out, snow tubing at John Nike. We often use Thames Valley Adventure Playground (TVAP) in Maidenhead as a place to meet 2. Fundraising We sometimes do street collections or fundraising events like a sponsored walk or cycle ride. - Fundraising
There are four street collections each year and, every two years, we try to hold a big fun event such as a sponsored walk or cycle ride. - Campaigning
We lobby to maintain and improve services and facilities for deaf children and their families in the area. Our latest focus has been subtitled movies at the cinema. - Provision of equipment
We can provide gifts of equipment to help deaf children lead independent lives. We have a library of deaf-related books and DVDs at King Edwards VII hospital in Windsor which can be booked and borrowed by members.
We are always looking for ideas and input from all our members so please contact us with ideas for events, queries about equipment, fundraising or any issues that you need help with.
