Exeter and South Devon Deaf Children's Society
Are you the parent or carer of a child who is deaf or has a hearing impairment? Do you live in or around Exeter and South Devon?
About our group
Exeter and South Devon Deaf Children's Society (ESDDCS) have been supporting deaf children and their families in the Exeter and South Devon area for over 40 years. Hearing loss and it's implications vary hugely, so we support families will all levels of deafness. Ranging from a mild hearing loss with or without hearing aids, to profoundly deaf with a cochlear implant, or someone who relies heavily on signing or lip reading.
Aims and activities
Our main aims are to support our deaf children, to develop effective interaction, communication and to offer every support we can to enable them to develop their full potential.
We run a varied events programme, often heavily subsidised. Every year we also arrange a social holiday, such as a weekend caravan break.
As with all charitable organisations, we are continually looking for opportunities to raise funds. Previously we have benefited from a National Lottery grant which enabled us to purchase computers and other specialist equipment.
We always try to make new members welcome and our committee members work very hard to try and ensure our activities offer opportunities for all. If you are living in our area and would like to join us get in touch. Our family membership is £10 a year for 2014(for 2015 this will be increasing to £25 per family).
