  • Government takes action to get schools right for children

    The Government has agreed today to take action on acoustics in new schools in England, in response to a campaign by the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS). In a ministerial statement, the Government has announced a package of measures (1) to end the scandal of new schools being built with poor listening environments.

  • Big Lottery Fund supports project for deaf teenagers in Scotland

    Deaf teenagers and their families in Scotland are set to benefit from a unique project called ‘Who am I?’ that will be run by the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS). The three year project is fully funded by the Big Lottery to promote family cohesion by bringing together deaf teenagers and their families to encourage positive communication and peer support.

  • NDCS publications ‘highly commended’ by British Medical Association

    The British Medical Association (BMA) awarded the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) with a high commendation for two of its information booklets, Down’s Syndrome and Childhood Deafness and Congenital cytomegalovirus and deafness, at the 2008 Patient Information Awards on Tuesday 9 September.

    The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) has extended its unique Deaf Role Model Project. The free service will now enable deaf children aged 0-18 years old living in Berkshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Oxfordshire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Wiltshire, Wales and Northern Ireland the chance to meet successful deaf adults who will share their personal experiences of growing up deaf.
