Q. What’s the best thing about fundraising for NDCS?
A. When you knock on someone’s door you never know who’s going to answer. I meet loads of interesting people every day. I especially like it when it’s someone who has been helped by NDCS. It always reminds me how good the work is and I feel good that I’m doing something to help. It makes me even more passionate about the cause.
Q. And the worst?
A. It can be quite a tough job. I understand that it’s everyone’s choice whether they want to join NDCS or not, and that some people have other charities that they are particularly close to… but it can still get you down sometimes when people say ‘no’ to such a great charity.
Q. Where is your favourite place to go in Bristol?
A. The Avon Gorge Hotel sun terrace is lovely when the weather is nice – there’s a fantastic view over the whole of Bristol. I love being outdoors. That’s one reason why fundraising for NDCS is great for me. You need to not be too bothered about walking around all day going from door to door, especially when it’s raining!
Q. What would you say to anyone interested in door-to-door fundraising for NDCS?
A. I’d say if you are interested in helping deaf children and their families, like talking to people and think you can handle a lot of walking and the unpredictable elements, give it a go. Yes, it can be hard, but it is also very rewarding. There’s a lot of support from NDCS with training and guidance. There’s a great team and ongoing help from everyone.
