Stonehenge School breaks fundraising record!
Stonehenge Secondary School, Amesbury, Wiltshire nominated the NDCS as their charity of the year during the 2006 and raised a staggering £3,840.80, which was the largest school donation for that year.
The school participated in various events including a sponsored walk and a non-uniform day.
Community Fundraising Officer, Elizabeth Gordon, visited the school in March to give a personal thank-you and cheque presentation on behalf of the NDCS.
Well done Stonehenge School!
Man runs the Saraha Desert for the NDCS!
Edward Strange ran 150 miles (240km) through the Sahara Desert in 7 days in support of the National Deaf Children’s Society.
The Marathon Des Sables took place in the Sahara Desert and was billed as the toughest foot race in the world. Between 650-700 competitors from over 30 countries covered 150 miles over 7 days from Saturday 30th March 2007.
Edward was had to run through scrubland, small mountains, stony plateaus and some of the biggest sand dunes in the world.
Before setting off for the challenge of a lifetime, Edward said:
“Without a question the Marathon Des Sables will be one of the hardest challenges I have ever undertaken. However, this event lasts only ine week. Deafness is a much greater obstacle and accordingly I am hoping to raise awareness and funds for a charity which is important to me.
Some of you may know that my own daughter suffers from hearing loss; nevertheless she shows enormous fortitude and cheerfulness. The National Deaf Children’s Society is an organisation structured to help parents and their deaf children. I very much hope to help the cause”
Simon Williams becomes Ironman for the NDCS!
A young man from Milton Keynes will be travelling to Switzerland in June to carry out the Ironman challenge- which he quotes as ‘possibly the hardest race in the world’
Simon Williams, who is hard of hearing, will endure a 17 hour race which comprises of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and then a 26.2 mile run.
Because of Simon’s personal connections with deafness, he is determined to raise as much money and awareness for the NDCS. His minimum sponsorship target is £4,000, but Simon hopes to top this.
Simon bids all NDCS supporters to visit his fundraising webpage at www.justgiving.com/gymman and sponsor him online. All donations through this website take approximately 3 minutes to reach the NDCS!
