National volunteering opportunities
To check if you are eligible to volunteer with us, please download the short self-assessment to the right >>
We are currently only recruiting deaf and hearing volunteers in specific areas, as we have a large pool of volunteers at the moment and want to ensure that we have enough places on our events to offer them.
We actively encourage people from BME (black, minority & ethnic) backgrounds to apply to become volunteers to reflect the culture and diversity of the deaf children and young people that we work with.
If you do not meet our criteria at the moment, we still appreciate your interest and are sorry that there aren't currently any vacancies.
We are continually reviewing this situation so if you are still keen to volunteer please check this section of the website for any updates.
If you would like to be added to a reserve list in the mean time or have any questions about the above please contact the Administrator (Volunteers) on 0121 234 9833 (voice and text).
Expressing interest in volunteering
We assign volunteers up to eight weeks in advance in order to complete Criminal Record Bureau checks (for volunteers in Wales and England), Discloure Scotland check (for volunteers in Scotland) and Access NI checks (for volunteers in Northern Ireland). So if you are interested in an event please give us lots of notice to avoid disappointment.
Please note all new volunteers are required to attend a one day event and/or training before doing a residential event.
If you are interested in a one day event please consider that most events start at about 9.30am so you must be within realistic travelling distance to get to the event for this time.
Current Opportunities
To enquire about current volunteering opportunities, contact our Administrator (Volunteers) by email at: volunteer@ndcs.org.uk
Training
You may not receive any formal training before a one day event, however you will be looked after by another volunteer on the day who has attended an event before. We will be running regional training days/workshops from March 2006 onwards for all volunteers to attend if they wish.
We also run training weekends for volunteers attending residential events. You will receive more information on this if you have been selected for a residential event.
Expenses
If you are travelling to an event by train, the event organiser will book train tickets for you and they will be sent to your home.
If you are travelling by car to an event, we will refund the equivalent of a standard return rail ticket for your journey.
Where volunteers are required to stay overnight the day before an event, an evening meal will be provided or you will be allocated up to £10 to purchase a meal. This can only be claimed with prior consent from the events organiser or volunteer co-ordinator.
