Technology

Three months

Every journey starts with a first step

Thank you, you're doing something amazing. By supporting NDCS every month you are helping a deaf child take their first steps towards a brighter future.

There is a wide range of equipment that can be useful to deaf children. Some of the equipment is designed to make them more independent around the home, and others have been designed to work with hearing aids to overcome some of the problems caused by background noise. There is also a range of equipment that can give deaf children access to entertainment and educational materials and help deaf children to communicate.

Your ongoing support will enable a family to talk with one of our trained technology specialists to discuss what equipment is on offer and help decide what is right for your child.

Types of technology:

  • Listening devices - Listening devices are designed to help deaf children make the best use of the hearing they have. Many devices will work with hearing aids or cochlear implants to reduce the problems created by background noise.
  • Alerting devices - Alerting devices are pieces of equipment which let deaf children know when something is happening.
  • TV, DVDs and films - Information about subtitles and sign language on television, films and cinema.
  • Communication technology - There are a number of products designed to allow deaf children and young people to use the phone. The products they can use will depend on the level of their deafness.
  • Radio aids - Information on different types of radio aids, plus information on using radio aids.

Not all equipment is suitable for every deaf child and it is often expensive to buy. Your gift this month will help parents access the best equipment for their child's development.
