NDCS updates its Constitution
Since NDCS's present Constitution was first drawn up in 1992, there have been many changes to charity law and practice. The NDCS Trustee Board has recently reviewed our Constitution and would like to propose a number of changes in order to update it. Before the Trustees finalise their proposals, we would like to have our members' views through consultation.
NDCS is a successful charity which in 10 years has grown from an annual income of £3 million in 1997 to £13 million today. Like all charities, NDCS must have a written constitution which sets out what the charity is for and how the charity is to run itself.
Although a charity’s constitution should not change frequently, it does need to be updated periodically to reflect changes to charity and company law and to enable NDCS to operate effectively.
The Trustees of NDCS have reviewed our current Constitution and would like to propose a number of changes. Before the Trustee Board puts formal proposals for changes to the Constitution to the next Annual General Meeting (AGM), we would like to know if you have any views about them.
The changes are intended to ensure that NDCS can operate effectively and responsively and we hope that they will have your support. NDCS is a membership organisation and any changes to its constitution have to be approved by NDCS voting members, who are parents and carers of deaf children, at the next AGM which will be held on 24 November 2008.
