Gearing up for Deaf Awareness Week

24 May 2010

Deaf Awareness Week takes place this year from 28 June to 4 July and the theme will be "Look at me".

There will be lots of events taking place in this week to raise awareness of the communication needs of deaf children and adults, including:

  • Along with RNID, NDCS will be hosting a UK Council on Deafness parliamentary reception for MPs and peers to help ensure that politicians are aware of the barriers holding deaf children and adults back.
  • NDCS Cymru will be producing a special deaf awareness poster for schools with the help of deaf children from Wales. The poster project follows on from NDCS Cymru’s If I could change one thing? Campaign, which was launched during deaf awareness week last year.
  • NDCS fundraising team will be encouraging schools to take the opportunity to raise awareness of the needs of deaf children among their pupils, whilst having fun and raising money at the same time.
