Get involved in developing local services

Are you the parent of a deaf child? Do you want to make a difference?

As you may already be aware, the new born hearing screening programme (NSHP) works closely with the NDCS to improve experiences of hearing services for deaf children and their families.

Parents can play a crucial role in developing and improving services for deaf children by being involved in their local Children’s Hearing Services Working Group (CHSWG) and giving their views and experiences.

As part of this continuing effort, the NHSP are delivering one day workshops for parents who wish to be, or currently are, representatives on CHSWG.

The objectives of the workshops are to:
• improve effectiveness of parent representatives on CHSWGs
• enable parents to play a strategic role in influencing development and delivery of hearing services
• enhance influencing and negotiating skills
• enable full understanding of meetings' processes and purposes
• plan for evaluation of parent perceptions of hearing services
• improve quality of local hearing services
• promote awareness of NHSP quality assurance processes
• promote awareness of NDCS parent opportunities.

The workshops are being held in various locations:
• Tuesday 8 February 2012, Newcastle
• Monday 5 March 2012, Liverpool
• Wednesday 7 March 2012, Victoria, London
