New Family Officer for Surrey - Janette Goudge
Hi, my name is Janette Goudge and I’m the family officer for NDCS covering the Surrey area.
I originally trained as a teacher ten years ago and more recently have been supporting school staff and families of children with social, emotional and behavioural needs. I love solving problems and helping people so will do whatever I can to support parents and carers of deaf children.
The key purpose of an NDCS family officer is to help families make informed choices on behalf of their deaf child. I’m gradually realising that the role is different in every area of the country, so since starting in January 2010 one of the things I have done is tried to find out as much as I can about the schools, support services and audiology that are specific to Surrey and the surrounding area. Therefore in addition to the wealth of information and advice available from the whole NDCS team, I hope to be able to help you with benefits, education, communication and local group activities. I know that every question will be different and the level of support I provide dependent on you and your needs. So whether you want to meet other families with deaf children in your area, would like support at your child’s annual review or want to talk through different communication options please get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.
