Remark! funds film project for deaf children
TV and film production company Remark! has selected NDCS as its Charity
of the Year 2009 and will fund one of our film projects for deaf
children this year.
In October, 18 deaf children aged 11 to 15 years old will take part in a three-day film project in the West Midlands.
The deaf children will learn about short film making and will produce their own movie through a series of interactive workshops run by the professionals from Remark!.
“The film project in the West Midlands will bring deaf children together, giving them a taster in film production and maybe a foot in the door to their desired career,” said Stacey Kilpatrick, NDCS Arts Officer. “The deaf children will have a once in a life time opportunity to get involved in every stage of movie production including script writing, styling, acting and directing.”
The short movie will then be entered into this year’s Deaffest film festival and will preview at the Remark! TV and Film Awards.
Stacey said that she was grateful to Remark! for choosing NDCS as their Charity of the Year and added that the funding would help the children and young people involved to develop useful life skills.
“Arts projects like this are crucial for young deaf people as deafness makes it harder for them to communicate which can be very isolating,” Stacey explained. “This project will allow the deaf children to meet people with similar interests as well as developing their confidence and team-working – qualities that are crucial in their future life.”
Tickets for the Remark! Film and TV Awards on 7 November 2009 can be ordered online. £5 from every ticket sale will go directly to NDCS.
