Videos now accessible to all!

5 March 2010

YouTube has today announced that all English language videos will have automatic captions.

Susan Daniels, Chief Executive at the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) said, “This is fantastic news for all of the UK’s 1.6 million children who have permanent or temporary hearing loss.  Many are unable to fully enjoy the benefits of participating in social media, unlike their peers who take it for granted.

“As the leading charity supporting deaf children and young people, NDCS is delighted that Google is committed to breaking down communication barriers facing deaf children and helping them fully engage with the world around them. However this is just the start; we now expect other major broadcasters and content providers, including the BBC and ITV, to follow suit in making online video accessible for all.”
