Healthy Minds - training for professionals

Healthy Minds - training for professionals

Our Healthy Minds programme explores good emotional health and well-being for deaf young people. We train professionals to deliver the series of sessions for deaf children with an emphasis on deaf young people finding their own solutions to the problems they may encounter. We believe this provides life-long learning tools. Tackling issues such as low self-esteem, isolation, stress and anxiety, Healthy Minds encourages young deaf people to use positive strategies for dealing with change, managing their deafness, developing their self-esteem and confidence and building a repertoire of social skills.

Six sessions cover the following topics:

  • What is a healthy mind?
  • Developing good emotional well-being
  • Support mechanisms and looking after your body
  • Identity – Who am I?
  • Owning and managing deafness
  • I’m okay being deaf
  • People attending the training courses range from Teachers of the Deaf and teaching assistants to speech and language therapists, youth workers, paediatricians and clinical psychologists.
