Wales - Education data

The Welsh Assembly Government School Statistics Branch has provided NDCS Cymru with data on the educational attainment of deaf children at Key Stages 1 to 4.

This data specifically represents the attainment levels of deaf children who have no secondary special educational needs, compared to the attainment levels of hearing peers who have no special educational need.

The data covers deaf children who are on School Action and School Action Plus programmes, as well those who are in receipt of a Statement. Due to the way in which data is collected, it covers some, but not all, deaf children who do not receive specialist support. Therefore, NDCS Cymru continues to campaign for improved data collection.

This data was published on 16 October 2009.

NDCS spreadsheet of attainment data in Wales

This document contains the data on the educational attainment of deaf children in Wales for Key Stages 1 to 4. The document also contains statistics calculated by NDCS Cymru, which demonstrate the gap in attainment between deaf children and their hearing peers.

Since deafness is a relatively low incidence disability, the statistics are based on small numbers. In order to mitigate the inevitably low cohorts, NDCS Cymru has also calculated attainment gaps for three year periods.

What the data tells us
