Seeking good practice examples of working with BME families

6 February 2012

NDCS is currently collating case studies which demonstrate effective working with BME families, deaf children and young people. The aim is to share information on good practice around access and raise awareness of some of the barriers. These case studies will be showcased on our website.

Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) families with deaf children may need some adaptations or changes to the way in which the services are delivered to them in order to make them fully accessible and ensure their needs are met. There are some areas of particular interest in relation to:

  • Accessing information and advice
  • Language and communication issues
  • Marketing and dissemination of event information
  • Accessing events

If you think your service/organisation has successfully engaged with families, children or young people from BME backgrounds, we would love to hear from you. Your case study should be maximum two A4 pages long and include the following basic points:

  1. Introduction and background to service / organisation
  2. Introduction to work with BME families
  3. Information on particular service / issue including why it was set up / changed/adapted.
  4. Information on exactly how the service has been delivered
  5. Information on feedback from families or evaluation
  6. How to find out more .....

Please send your case study to Zobia Kalim, BME Development Manager by emailing Zobia.kalim@ndcs.org.uk. All case studies should be sent by 31 March 2012. We look forward to hearing from you!
