Our responses to consultations
Here you can find out about which UK wide or multi-country consultations NDCS has responded to, and read our responses. You can also find our responses to calls for evidence on this page.
April 2012: Personal Independence Payment: assessment and thresholds
NDCS has responded to a public consultation on the Government’s proposals for assessment for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) which will replace Disability Living Allowance in 2013. In it we highlight our concern that under these proposals many deaf young people stand to lose out and recommendations on how this can be avoided.
April 2011: Department for Communities and Local Government review of statutory duties
NDCS has responded to an informal review of all statutory duties – both UK-wide and devolved – to highlight the importance of legal protections for deaf children and the need to properly engage with parents of deaf children before making any proposals to remove or change any duties.
February 2011: Disability Living Allowance reform
NDCS has responded to UK-wide consultation on Disability Living Allowance reform, highlighting the need to more thoroughly consider the implications of this reform for deaf children and young people.
November 2010: Implementing the Revised EU Electronic Communications Framework
NDCS has responded to a UK-wide consultation on how the Government will implement new European laws on telecommunications, likely to have far-reaching implications for deaf young people’s access to relay services.
February 2010: UK Film Council future priorities
NDCS has responded to a consultation on the UK Film Council future priorities, expressing concern that there is no reference to any work to widen access to the cinema for deaf children and young people.
July 2009: Regulation of private hearing aid dispensers (UK)
Most deaf children get their hearing aids from the NHS. But for those who receive them through private health care, NDCS has broadly welcomed proposals in a Department of Health consultation on changes to the way this is regulated.
January 2009: Improving Protection from Disability Discrimination (England, Scotland and Wales)
NDCS has responded to a Government consultation on changes to disability discrimination law to ensure that deaf children are fully protected from discrimination. The changes attempt to fill a major gap that has been left in discrimination law since a recent judgement was made by the House of Lords.
January 2009: Revision of Building Bulletin 93 (England and Wales)
Newly built schools in England and Wales are required to comply with Government guidance on acoustics - known as Building Bulletin 93. This was subject to a limited review in early 2009. NDCS has responded to highlight the lack of focus on compliance within the guidance, resulting in classrooms where it is more difficult for deaf children to listen and learn effectively.
August 2008: Review of children’s services and content: Public Consultation by the BBC Trust (UK)
NDCS responded to a BBC Trust consultation on BBC's services and content for children, which closed in August 2008. NDCS has enjoyed a warm relationship with BBC Children's and took the opportunity to highlight how BBC Children's can make further progress to make TV accessible for deaf children and young people.
