2nd DFFC Tournament (Derby)

The seciond National Deaf Youth Football Tournament took place at the Powerleague Derby Soccerdome on Sunday 15 February 2009.

23 teams and over 150 deaf footballers from all over the country took part in a fantastic contest. Read all about the results and matches below.

Report

This year's event expanded from a single age group tournament to three age groups. We held competitions for under 12s (mixed), under 16-boys and under-16 girls.

All the teams, cheered on by lots of supporters and parents, were divided into groups to determine who would make it through to the knockout stages.

There were some fantastic matches taking place at this stage, the pick of them included Manchester United beating Manchester City 3-1 in the U16 Boys tournament. The Derby County v Manchester United FA Cup match was taking place later that day at the Pride Park stadium opposite the Soccerdome. There were lots of curious United fans watching the match from the viewing area and cheering on the reds!

The knockout stages saw some more closely fought contests take place. In the Under-12s, Everton narrowly edged out Bolton Lads & Girls 1-0 and Derby beat a brave Brighton team 4-0 to set up a final clash.

The final was a tough match with both teams having chances to win but ultimately Derby prevailed to take the trophy by winning 2-1. Derby player Josh took the player of the tournament award.

In the U16 Girls tournament, the top two teams, Everton and Holgate School took their place in a final match up. The strong Everton team proved too much for Holgate and won 6-0 to take their tally to 33 goals in just four matches! A well deserved player of the tournament award went to winning captain Danielle.

The U16 Boys knockout stages were played to a very high standard and several teams fancied their chances of taking the title. The quater finals saw Blanche Neville A ease past Northampton Town and Luton Deaf Boys brushed aside Derby B. Fulham surprised Manchester United with their skills and deserved their 2-1 victory. They were joined by Derby A who put on a fantastic display to beat Manchester City 5-1.

The semi finals saw Blanche Neville A come from behind to beat Fulham 3-2 while the other semi final saw growing favourites Luton beat Derby A 4-0.

The final was a keenly contested affair but tiredness began to set in and Luton managed to pull away to take a 5-1 win and the winning trophy was collected by captain Sam. Player of the tournament went to Luton midfielder Jordan.

Our thanks and congratulations
Our thanks go to the NDCS volunteers who worked so hard to make sure everything ran smoothly and also to the referees for their efforts.

Well done to all teams who took part, the standard of football was extremely high and we look forward to seeing you all again on Sunday 1 November for the third NDCS Tournament at the Alan Higgs Sports Centre in Coventry.
