Volunteer opportunities

Here are the volunteer roles we are recruiting for at the moment. Some of these opportunities are available across the UK and some may be local to you. Please check back often as this page is updated regularly.

Support the Volunteering team in our Birmingham office

Office Supporters help our teams to provide the best support to deaf children, young people, their families and the people who work with them. Office Supporters volunteer during normal office hours (usually Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

We are currently looking for one Office Volunteer to support our Volunteering team. 

We need a volunteer for up to 5 days a week for approx. 2-3 weeks starting 27 November 2019. You will assist the team with administrative tasks, including:

  • Update volunteer information on our database
  • Create volunteer folders
  • Filing, scanning and other administrative tasks as needed

You should have excellent attention to detail and good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel. You should also live within commuting distance of our Birmingham office. 

Days and times are flexible and applications close on 20 November with interviews taking place on 21 and 22 November

Support teams in our London office

Office Supporters help our teams to provide the best support to deaf children, young people, their families and the people who work with them. Office Supporters volunteer during normal office hours (usually Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

We are currently looking for two Office Volunteers to support our Evidence and Evaluation team:

1. One volunteer for 1 day per week to assist the team with administrative tasks, including:

  • Formatting reports
  • Checking data for accuracy
  • Collating and presenting data from surveys
  • Analysing basic data to support with evaluations

You should have an interest in analysis and evaluation, be confident using Microsoft Word and Excel and live within commuting distance of our London office.

2. One volunteer for 2-3 days per week for around 6 months to support an exciting project, including:

  • Researching and developing an evidence bank for use across the organisation
  • Working with teams to fill the evidence bank
  • Creating evidence quality standards and implementing them when reviewing evidence
  • Promoting the use of evidence in planning work across all teams
  • Ensuring the evidence bank is sustainable, including training teams where appropriate

You should have a good understanding of research and/or information management, be confident in exploring, organising and sharing data and information, and have excellent IT skills, especially with Microsoft Excel.

For both role, days and times are flexible and expected start date is December 2019.

Support deaf children and young people on activity holidays

Apply to be a group supporter if you:

  • Are deaf and 18 years old or over
  • Enjoy supervising children and getting involved with activities
  • Are happy to stay overnight at our events across the UK

Apply to be a communicator if you:

  • Are hearing and have BSL level 3 or above (or equivalent)
  • Are willing to provide communication support (BSL / English) for children, young people, volunteers and staff
  • Enjoy supervising children and getting involved with activities
  • Are happy to stay overnight at our events across the UK

Share your experiences of deafness on our family events

Apply to be a family member volunteer if you:

  • Are a relative or carer of a deaf child (eg parent or grandparent)
  • Are willing to share your experiences at our family events
  • Are available to volunteer on Saturdays or Sundays

Apply to be a deaf presenter if you:

  • Are a deaf adult who experienced deafness during your childhood
  • Are willing to share your experiences at our family events
  • Are available to volunteer on Saturdays or Sundays
