Families Leading the Way workshops
We’ve created this series of free, online workshops to help you to feel more confident about taking action and getting involved in things that make a difference for deaf children.
Who these workshops are for
If you have ever:
- taken action that helped your child to get the right support
- worked with other families to make a difference for deaf children in your area
- contacted your MP or another decision maker to try and change something
Or if you'd like to learn more about how you can, then these free workshops are for you!
It doesn't matter whether you have experience or not in taking action for your child or others. If you are keen to help make a difference for all deaf children in your area, we’d love to have you join our workshops.
When and where
These workshops take place on Zoom.
These workshops are now fully booked. You are welcome to register your interest and we will notify you when future sessions become available.
These small group workshops are for five weeks, with an optional sixth week about media if that interests you:
Week one: Families Working Together
We’ll be looking at the importance of families working together to make a difference for deaf children. We will discuss how to make sure that families who don’t usually have a say in effecting change to get their voices heard too.
Week two: Influencing And Getting Our Voices Heard
Together we’ll start to look at how you can get involved as a family member and ensure the influence you have does make change.
Week three: What is Co-Production?
We’ll look at how families and professionals can work side by side to develop services that best meet the needs of deaf children. You’ll learn more about opportunities for getting involved in this.
Week four: Looking After Ourselves
We know that trying to make change happen can sometimes be challenging, so this week we’ll look at those challenges and how we manage them, remembering to look after ourselves in the process.
Week five: Getting Started with Campaigning
Here we’ll be looking at how you can get started with campaigning, no matter how small. You’ll learn about the support available and how simple it can be to make a difference for deaf children.
Week six: Introduction to the Media (optional)
In this optional week, we’ll help you to build your confidence should you need to talk to any part of the media. Hopefully you will leave feel it’s not as daunting as it seems!
Closed captioning and BSL interpreters can be made available on request. Please submit your preference when you fill out the booking form. If you have any questions, send us an email at [email protected].
