Technology for Inclusion and Independence - CPD accredited

Overview

This e-learning series is made up of 4 CPD accredited modules which each take around 30 minutes to complete. This includes:

  • Introduction to Technology
  • Radio Aids
  • Technology for Independence
  • Hearing Devices

Aimed at all professionals working with deaf children and young people, this e-learning series is the perfect place to start learning about the technology available to help deaf children and young people in their education, work and life in general.

They will help you learn about hearing devices and assistive technology for deaf children and young people and will give you a good understanding of how technology can support inclusion and independence.

It is mandatory to complete the “Introduction to Technology” module first and then you may choose whichever modules are most relevant to you and the deaf children and young people you work with.

A certificate for proof of professional development is available for each module you complete.

Introduction to Technology - CPD accredited

This module aims to improve your knowledge about the wide range of technology products available to deaf children and young people, what they do, how they work and the benefits they bring to the user.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • describe the key technology products and services available for deaf children and young people
  • explain how these products can support deaf individuals within various settings
  • recommend useful technology products to deaf children and young people.

Radio Aids - CPD accredited

This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of typical radio aids and their use within setting such as schools.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • explain the importance and benefits of using a radio aid
  • name the main components of a typical radio aid and how it works
  • identify where a radio aid can be used and how it can be obtained.

Technology for Independence - CPD accredited

This module aims to provide you with information about the technology and services available to support deaf children and young adults to live more independently.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • recognise the barriers that deaf young people face when living independently
  • identify technology products and services that can help a deaf young person to live more independently
  • describe how these work to benefit the user and encourage independence.

Hearing Devices - CPD accredited

This module aims to develop awareness and understanding of the most common hearing devices used by deaf children and young people, what they do, how they work and the benefits they bring to the user.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • identify the three main parts of the ear and how these can cause different types and levels of hearing loss
  • name the causes of hearing loss and deafness amongst children and young people
  • identify the most common hearing devices available
  • describe how each hearing device works and how it benefits the user.
