Supporting the achievement of deaf children in schools

Photo: Help deaf children achieve their full potential

With the right support there’s no reason why most deaf children can’t achieve the same educational outcomes as other children. Are you an education professional who wants to know how to provide the right support?

Our one-day workshop, devised for all staff in mainstream schools, will help you make sure deaf children are fully included in the life of your school. You’ll learn simple steps and suggestions for deaf-friendly teaching and use our Supporting achievement resources. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss a range of inclusive approaches and leave the workshop with practical ideas that will benefit all children.

Key themes

  • Understanding deafness and its impact on learning.
  • How to use deaf-friendly teaching approaches and make reasonable adjustments.
  • Effective communication (including use of technology, such as radio aids and soundfield).
  • Information and advice on securing effective transition to the next stage of education.

Please note: this workshop is intended for mainstream staff who do not have access to local education authority training support on inclusion and deaf-friendly teaching or for those who would like supplementary or refresher training.
