Using a student microphone in school
At school a lot of learning is through group discussion. Does anyone have experience of using the Phonak Roger Microphone to give to students as they discuss to ensure that the student with hearing impairment can fully engage in the discussion? Would they recommend its use in the classroom?
Absolutely! My son's teacher wears his Roger system all day! She hooks it up to the TV if they have a show to watch etc. it was the best decision we ever made, to use it at school.
My son says it is helpful. He puts it on the table in the middle of a small group (Roger/ Phonak advise using like this for groups of up to 6) and it picks up the sound of the speakers sat around the pen. As it can pick up the voices wherever they are sat it helps for hearing someone who is sat at the end of the table or on a funny angle etc even if you can't see them easily. The sound gets fed straight into the hearing aids.
Yes, my daughter was recommended the Roger system for university but the said the Select was more versatile than the pen as you can use it for group discussions - it looks like a UFO with mics all round to pick up everyone and you can switch some off if not needed. It can also be used as a big standard radio aid (like the pen!) plus can link to laptops etc to hel ptemlaiten to audio on devices. I think she ended up with both at uni but prefers the select as it's better for groups! Good luck
