Hi, my little boy is currently 8 months and has mild/moderate hearing loss. I've recently been given the middle rate of DLA payment for him. I currently have just gone back to work, I do 15 hours a week which works out I earn £138 a week which is £10 over what the weekly allowance is to apply for carers allowance, is it still worth it to see if I can Still get this? I'm currently in the process of trying to get rid of 1 shift a week but my work place isn't making it easy.

many thanks

kirsty

Hi Kirsty

Thanks for joining Your Community and starting this thread. Your Community is still very new and hopefully in time other parents can share their experiences of claiming Carer's Allowance too.

It's great you've got the DLA in place for your litte boy. You can find details of the criteria for claiming Carer's Allowance on gov.uk. It includes some guidance about calculating your earnings. They look at your earnings after tax, national insurance and any expenses. Expenses can include things like travel costs not covered by your employer and childcare. It may be when you take these things into account that you will be eligible and can apply.

Let us know how you get on and if you need any support with it you can always contact our Helpline

Take care

Hi Kirsty ,

unforchantly I would say not, I earned £5 over the limit and they took my careers allounce away, I would say it's definitely worth trying to drop that hour if you can then apply after that :)

Although I think there is a care Element you can apply for through universal credit, I think there rules are different but I'm not that sure about it though so worth you having a look.
