Kenzie's teaching sign language

Published date: 26 June 2025
For those of you who follow our blogs, you will already know how passionate Kenzie is about increasing deaf awareness and the use of sign language. He has recently been working hard in his local community by delivering workshops and helping to support deaf groups.
Kenzie recently delivered a sign language workshop in a local hair and beauty academy for the level 2 and 3 apprentices. The workshop was focused around wellbeing and emotions, so Kenzie taught them how to ask 'how are you' and how to respond with various emotions.
As a result, the academy has now introduced a daily wellbeing check where the students use sign language to ask how each other is feeling and responding with an emotion.
Kenzie gets so excited when delivering these workshops and loves helping people learn to sign. He's always so confident standing up in front of the groups and demonstrating the different signs. He also helps create interactive activities which take place during the sessions, and he loves being the teacher.
In fact, Kenzie loves teaching so much that he has decided that he wants to be a teacher when he grows up. And not just any teacher, he specifically wants to be a Teacher of the Deaf so he can always help people like him and help develop the use of sign language.
Kenzie practises his teaching skills all time by creating video lessons for his Facebook page to help others wanting to learn sign language. He also sets up his classroom at home with teddies as his students and practises teaching to them.
Kenzie has also delivered a session to his school class and taught his friends and teaching staff how to sign different colours. This has had a really positive impact on the use of sign language within the school.
Next week, Kenzie will be supporting his local Scout association by delivering some sign language workshops and hosting a sponsored sign-along to help raise money for the Scout hall.
It's so incredible to see his confidence growing more and more each year, and his passion and enthusiasm to help others is amazing – and he is only 6 years old! It melts my heart watching him deliver his sessions and brings a tear to my eye every time with how incredibly proud I am of him.
