Guided by our Every Moment Counts strategy, we want to make sure as many deaf children as possible are identified early and receive timely, high-quality, family-centred support.
We’re working with national governments, global organisations and local communities to make this a reality.
Our goal
We played a leading role in the introduction of newborn hearing screening in the UK and know the transformative effect it can have on deaf children.
We’ll work with governments to bring about the same kind of systemic change in low- and middle-income countries. We’ll also forge stronger alliances with global and national leaders who share our vision.
When it comes to the rights of deaf children, we’ve been passionate advocates for decades. Because nothing should hold deaf children back, and every moment counts.
Why we’re focusing on early intervention
We believe that early identification and intervention aren't just beneficial – they're transformative.
Across the globe, an estimated 34 million children live with moderate, severe or profound hearing loss. The majority – nearly 80% – reside in low- and middle-income countries, where access to essential hearing care services is limited.
At Deaf Child Worldwide, we believe that every child has the right to achieve their potential, and we refuse to accept a world where deaf children are left behind.
