How you can leave us a gift in your will
Whether you're making a new will or updating an existing one, you should seek professional advice from a solicitor or will writer. They ensure your will is valid and your wishes are clearly expressed.
You can find a local solicitor on The Law Society’s website.
Our free will writing information pack includes helpful advice to guide you through the will-writing process.
We also offer a free will-writing service through our will writing partners, Octopus Legacy.
Types of gifts you can include in your will
You can leave a gift to us in your will as a specific amount of money or you can leave us a percentage or share of whatever is left once all other gifts to your loved ones have been made.
The free will-writing service we offer with our partners at Octopus Legacy can suggest appropriate wording for the type of gift you wish to include, as can other will writing professionals.

National Deaf Children’s Society

Keeping your will up to date
Review your will regularly to ensure it reflects any changes in your life. You can make amendments to your will at any time.
If the changes are simple and straightforward it might be possible for you to use a form called a 'codicil'. If the changes are more complicated, it is likely you will need a new will.
Inheritance tax
Inheritance tax is charged on the portion of your estate that exceeds a certain value at the time of your death.
A gift to charity in your will is tax-free and could reduce the amount of inheritance tax due. Also, under current law, if you leave 10% of your estate to charity, it may reduce the overall rate of inheritance tax to be paid.
We recommend talking to a solicitor or financial advisor as the rules around inheritance tax can change, and everyone’s circumstances are different.
