Local support groups
Local groups bring families together for friendship, support and fun. Learn more about the different groups we support and find one near you.
Types of local support groups
Local deaf children's societies
Local deaf children's societies are a great way to meet other families of deaf children. They run lots of social events and activities, provide support to parents and carers and give deaf children the chance to meet outside of school. Many also have their own social media channels.
Each local society is a small charity that is officially affiliated to the National Deaf Children's Society. They are volunteer-run, and largely parent-led, with a formal committee structure in place. Each group is independent and has its own constitution, code of conduct and procedures, but we still offer lots of support to help them thrive.
Parent and Family Networks
Parent and Family Network groups are more informal than societies and are not formally affiliated to (or part of) the National Deaf Children's Society. They are typically made up of a few local families who connect over social media and sometimes meet in person for mutual support. Those attending Parent and Family Network groups are responsible for their own family members – just like they would be when meeting up with friends in a playground.
Developing groups
Some groups are currently in development, so there may be a closed Facebook page you can join to connect with other families virtually to start off with.
