Course overview

Effective language and communication skills lie at the heart of deaf children’s development and social and emotional wellbeing. That’s why identifying a suspected hearing loss and knowing what to do is so important.

This series of modules has been developed for all mainstream early years practitioners. You'll learn to recognise the signs of hearing loss, provide support and improve the listening environment in your setting.

No previous experience of deafness is needed.

What you'll learn

By the end of these modules, you’ll be able to:

  • identify the stages of typical listening and attention development
  • recognise the impact of hearing loss on young children
  • recognise some signs of hearing loss
  • confidently share your concerns with parents and relevant professionals
  • use strategies to improve the listening environment
  • identify improvements you can make to your setting
  • identify improvements you can make to your professional practice
