Cost: Free
Duration: Four 30-minute modules. You're welcome to work through them at your own pace and revisit them anytime in the future.
CPD accreditation: Each module will earn 0.50 CPD hours/points. Certified by CPD UK. A certificate for proof of professional development is available for each module you complete.
What you'll learn
Module 1: Introduction to Technology
Learn about the wide range of technology products available to deaf children and young people.
By the end of this module you'll be able to:
- describe the key technology products and services available to deaf children and young people
- explain how these products can support deaf children and young people in various settings
- recommend useful technology products to deaf children and young people
Please note: You'll have to complete 'Introduction to Technology' before you'll be able to move onto the other modules.
Module 2: Radio Aids
Learn what a radio is and how it can be used, for example in schools.
By the end of this module you'll be able to:
- explain the importance and benefits of using a radio aid
- explain how a radio aid works
- identify where a radio aid can be used
- explain where deaf children and young people can get a radio aid
Module 3: Technology for Independence
Learn how technology can support inclusion and independence for deaf young people.
By the end of this module you'll be able to:
- recognise the barriers that deaf young people may face in everyday life
- identify technology products and services that can help a deaf young person live more independently
- describe how these products and services work
Module 4: Hearing Devices
Learn about the most common hearing technology used by deaf children and young people.
By the end of this module you'll be able to:
- identify the 3 main parts of the ear and how these can cause different types and levels of hearing loss
- name some of the causes of hearing loss in children and young people
- identify the most common hearing technology available
- describe how each hearing device works and how it benefits the user
