Bedfordshire Deaf Children's Society
Are you the parent or carer of a child who is deaf or has a hearing impairment? Do you live in or around Bedfordshire?
About our group
Bedfordshire Deaf Children's Society was originally set up by a group of parents wanting to support each other in the 1950s.
There are 160 or so families with hearing impaired or deaf children living in Luton and Bedfordshire. We aim to support these families by offering advice and equipment, and through organising various fundraising, social, and informative events throughout the year.
Aims and activities
Bedfordshire DCS supports deaf children and their families in Luton and Bedfordshire. Our aim is to ensure that these children have equal opportunities in education, social life and development of personality.
We hold an annual family day and christmas party to enable families to join together and share experiences.
We also hold a summer barbeque and activity afternoon to enable deaf and hearing impaired children of all ages to meet, make new friends and have fun.
Our events are for all the family. We find they are an invaluable way for parents to meet up informally, talking and sharing experiences. It also benefits hearing siblings helping them to understand they are not different to any other families in the area.
Deaf families also attend some of our events, providing role models and valuable experiences for families.
