Kenzie visits the fire station

Published Date: 08 Sep 2022

Kenzie absolutely loves anything to do with vehicles, especially emergency services. He loves hearing sirens outside and watching vehicles go past. He always shouts, "Mummy, police car!", pointing excitedly. As you know from my last blog, Kenzie was lucky enough to have the fire brigade visit our house to fit his special fire alarms. Well, this week we were lucky enough to visit the fire station.

The local station had an open day where Kenzie got to go inside the fire engine, use the radio, and see the water rescues. He even got to watch a live demonstration of the team saving a man from a car. He was so excited to watch how they use the "big scissors" to cut off the roof!

There was loud music playing and large crowds throughout the day, with the sirens also going off regularly. You would think that this would affect Kenzie and be too loud for him, but in fact it was the opposite! He loves loud music and having a little dance and got very excited every time the sirens went off.

The only challenge is trying to talk to him or get his attention when the environment is very loud. This is when I need to refer back to all the things we were taught, such as tapping him to get his attention and getting close to him and facing him when talking.

Kenzie had the best day and enjoyed every single second. He says he wants to be a fireman when he's older. Let's see what the future holds!
