Local Groups – Scotland

Photo: Join a Local Support Group near you

Local deaf children's societies play an important role in providing support to families with deaf children and young people across Scotland.

Each local group is an individually constituted charity, which is run by a committee of volunteers, usually parents and carers of deaf children, sometimes with support from local health and education professionals. Local groups are affiliated to the National Deaf Children's Society and we provide a range of support, grants and guidance to help local groups run effectively.

Every local group is different and the activities and support a group offers can vary from area to area. Local groups can help children & adults with peer to peer friendships. They are also full of fantastic local knowledge and advice! Your local group may run social events and activities, provide support to parents and carers and give deaf children the chance to meet outside of school.

Here are some examples of how local groups support families, deaf children and young people in their areas:

  • Christmas parties for deaf children
  • Summer Family Fun Days
  • Youth clubs for children
  • Trips to a Christmas Pantomime

Want to get involved?

Groups also need volunteers to help them keep running, suggest ideas for events, help run events and to support with fundraising.

Could you spare a few hours a month to help your local group?
