Giving a major gift

We’ll work with you to ensure your donation makes a unique and meaningful difference to the lives of deaf children and young people

Our vision is a world without barriers for every deaf child. These barriers aren’t caused by deafness itself, but by how children are treated because they are deaf. Our mission is to overcome these social and educational barriers that hold deaf children back, and our ambition is that by 2030 no deaf child will be left behind.

With your help we can continue to ensure that deaf children are given the same opportunities as everyone else.

Our major supporters have an extraordinary influence

We’re incredibly grateful for any donation. We define a major supporter as anyone who has pledged or given £1,000 or more in philanthropic support.

By giving a gift of £1,000 or more, you will help make an incredible difference to families like Joshua’s.

Joshua and his mum Eda are just one family we’ve supported.

‘When I found out Joshua was profoundly deaf I felt a deep sense of loss, sadness and fear’ says Eda. ‘I didn’t know anyone who was deaf. I wondered how Joshua would cope in life.’

Joshua was fitted with hearing aids. But life was still a struggle. He started to throw tantrums in frustration at not being able to understand or communicate. ‘To see my child so distressed was very upsetting. It was difficult to get through to him.’

Hospital staff gave Eda one of our leaflets and she got in touch. Eda went on one of our weekends for parents of newly diagnosed children and it proved to be a life-changing experience. This gave Eda the chance to meet and talk to other parents about her experience and seek the information and support that she needed to support Joshua’s journey.

‘I finally understood Joshua’s deafness and what he needed from me,’ says Eda. ‘Advice about how to communicate effectively was an eye opener. It was one of the best weekends of my life.’

‘Joshua has grown up to be such a warm, friendly little man. I’m so proud of him!’

How your donation could help

£1000 could fund information and technology to teach hearing children about deafness, how they can support their deaf friends and different forms of communication.

£2500 could provide six month’s support to young deaf campaigners who raise awareness on important issues and campaign for change.

£10,000 could support our work funding the development of careers information and resources for deaf young people, parents and professionals.

'The Buffini Chao Foundation has been delighted to support the Youth Advisory Board programme since the programme’s inception in 2011/2012. We continue to be impressed by the young people on each of the Boards. Their energy and desire to make a difference and to improve the lives of deaf young people is truly inspiring'
