What does hearing loss sound like?

Photo: Simulations of what a hearing loss might sound like

Simulations of hearing loss can't give an exact idea of what the world sounds like to a deaf child, but they can give you an insight into the difficulties they face.

High frequency hearing loss simulation

Imagine you're a child with a high frequency hearing loss trying to listen to your teacher.

HearLoss – Hearing Loss Demonstrator

HearLoss is an interactive Windows PC program for demonstrating to hearing people the effects of hearing loss.

Cochlear implant simulation

The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service offers simulations of different voices and music, and a link to the University of Granada, Spain where you can download a program to make your own simulations of sound perception through a cochlear implant.
